Chelsea want to sign ‘special’ Manchester United talent this summer – it’s not Alejandro Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo

It looks like Chelsea could try to raid rivals Manchester United for a few of their players this summer.

The Blues are believed to have an interest in Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

In fact, it was claimed that Enzo Maresca was keen to see Garnacho arrive at Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window.

However, it appears that Garnacho and Mainoo are not the only United players who are currently on Chelsea‘s radar.

Chelsea have Leny Yoro on shortlist

Leny Yoro only joined United from Lille last summer, costing the Manchester club more than £50m. Chelsea, though, could already make a move for him as they look to strengthen in the centre-back position.

On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Yoro is one centre-half who is currently on the Blues’ shortlist.

As well as Yoro, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is another name thought to be on Chelsea’s radar.

With Chelsea keen on Mainoo, too, it means the Blues could end up making bids for three United players in the same window.

Chelsea’s past interest in Leny Yoro

This is not the first time that Chelsea have considered Yoro in their bid to improve their backline.

Chelsea scouted Yoro before his move to United, so the 19-year-old is a player they know a lot about.

He is someone with plenty of potential. “He is a special talent,” Ruben Amorim was quoted as saying by TNT Sports in December.

However, Yoro is yet to make too much of an impact at Old Trafford, though the French youngster has been injured, while there has not really been a particular defensive area where he has excelled.

For example, Yoro has completed 1.48 tackles per 90 minutes over the last year, putting him in the 50th percentile among his positional peers (via FBref).

With where Chelsea are right now, Enzo Maresca probably needs a more experienced central defender who can bring more to the table than the France youth international.
