Chelsea will need to fork out a huge transfer sum this summer in order to sign AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, according to reports.

Mike Maignan, who’s now regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, has been linked recently with a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs has shed some new light on the 27-year-old’s future.

Writing on Simon Phillips’ Substack, Jacobs explained that Chelsea face a difficult challenge if they want to sign Maignan in the summer transfer window.

It is understood that Italian giants Milan don’t plan to sell their number one goalkeeper.

Apparently, the France international will need to really force a move to exit the San Siro this summer.

In addition, his likely cost will be in excess of €85million (£73million).

Described as “special” by Clarence Seedorf, Maignan has grown into an elite keeper in the past couple of seasons.

It looks like he’s now stepped into the position of France’s number one following Hugo Lloris’ international retirement, which is a reward for his excellent form in Milan.

Maignan is a big upgrade on both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, who are the two senior keepers at Stamford Bridge right now.

If you consider Kepa cost the Blues £71million, Maignan for a similar price would be justified.
