Chelsea have reportedly won the race to sign Benfica wonderkid Diego Moreira, with the 18-year-old set to join the Blues ahead of the likes of AC Milan and PSG.

According to Record, the west London side have captured the winger’s signature ahead of numerous UEFA Champions League teams, with Todd Boehly once again landing one of Europe’s most exciting talents for Chelsea’s youth ranks.

One of Benfica’s most exciting youth talents and a regular for Portugal at U-19 level, Moreira has been expected to leave the European giants for the majority of the season, and an announcement could soon be made that the forward has signed for Chelsea.

The Blues’ spending spurge under the American businessman has seen Chelsea splash the cash on the likes of Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka and Andrey Santos, and Moreira is now on course to become the latest wonderkid to join Frank Lampard’s side.

Indeed, whether or not Moreira will break into the Chelsea senior team is another question, yet given just how good the attacker is and how highly rated the youngster is, there could be a chance for the Portuguese talent to make a name for himself in west London.

Boehly and his transfer team have done well to future-proof Chelsea’s squad, a task few have recognised and are yet to give the Blues owner his proper applause for. And signing Moreira is the latest deal in a long-line of moves that could work out for the west Londoners in the years to come.

At 18, Moreira has already featured for Benfica at a senior level and in the Champions League, and at Chelsea, the winger has the potential to develop his game beyond what he has currently learnt in Lisbon, where the forward could explode into a superstar.
