Tick tock, Tick tock.

Almost there. July 1st is almost upon us. The curtain will drop and there will stand….

Willy Caballero.

Or maybe more. Hopefully.

Lets take a quick run through the rumours of the week and how close they are to actually happening.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

Rumour Rating – 8/10

  • This one seems to be nearing completion. Rumours of him completing a medical at the weekend tie in nicely with the July 1st opening of the window and the start of our new Nike kit deal. The sooner Matic goes the sooner Bakayoko can join.  A big improvement in what we’ve already got. This time next week he should be ours for a quite reasonable price, considering his age and talent.

Alex Sandro

Rumour Rating – 7/10

  • The only issue here is the price. Our haggling over a few million for a world class player can be maddening at times, harking back to the failed attempt to get Luka Modric back in 2011. This could lead to a PSG slipping in, as everyone knows what Juve want. The player seems to want to come to us. We just need to “show them the money”! He’s a world class player and exactly what we need if we are to compete with Europes best next season.

Romelu Lukaku

Rumour Rating – 6/10

  • This time, I can see why we are struggling to justify stumping up the cash. A talent no doubt, but one worth upwards of 80m? Not for me, and not for Conte/Emenalo either. There is always a chance Lukaku could force a move through, but that isn’t likely to happen until August, which leaves little to no time for him to bed in. If Costa is staying, we should focus our efforts on Batman and a younger striker who can learn. Maybe someone like Solanke….oh….maybe Abraham? No? Ok then. Let’s sign someone!

Kostas Manolas

Rumour Rating – 6/10

  • This one seemed to come out of nowhere. The player was on his way to Zenit when apparently either we swooped in with a late bid, or he wasn’t happy with the terms offered in Russia. Now Ake has gone, we have two places we need to fill in defence. Manolas at anything less than 30m would be a great get for us in this market. A proven European defender, a regular in a very good Roma side, and he’s quicker than Gary Cahill! If we are to get him, and he certainly is making the right noises about coming, then we need to push it through.

So those are the top four. Slightly different style this week but so much seems to be happening at the moment with July 1st almost upon us. I honestly feel that by this time next week, two of the above could be done deals and Chelsea fans will be feeling a lot brighter than they are at the moment, with a decimated squad and at least eight extra games next season.
