One football club did not seem too keen on selling one of their players to Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea have been pretty active in this transfer window.

While it is still early July, the Blues have already signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman.

There is also a deal in place with Palmeiras for Estevao Willian to arrive at the club next year.

They are set to do more business before the transfer market shuts as well. According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Basel’s Renato Veiga will have his Chelsea medical later.

One team who Chelsea have done business with this summer, though, were reluctant to sell one of their assets to them but had no choice but to in the end it seems.

Premier League club were forced to sell to Chelsea

Chelsea signed Dewsbury-Hall and Kellyman from Leicester City and Aston Villa respectively during this transfer window.

All three clubs have been in the headlines recently for matters relating to PSR.

And now, according to 90min, Villa actually wanted to keep hold of Kellyman but allowed him to join Enzo Maresca‘s side in order to stay compliant with PSR.

Villa managed to bag just under £20m for Kellyman, with Chelsea signing the midfielder in a £19m deal.

It is not the only business the two Premier League clubs have done with each other this summer. While Kellyman has left Villa Park for Stamford Bridge, Ian Maatsen has moved in the opposite direction.

Will Aston Villa regret selling Omari Kellyman to Chelsea?

Villa sold Carney Chukwuemeka to Chelsea in 2022 and have got on just fine despite the 20-year-old being one of their most promising young players at the time.

Last season, Villa managed to finish fourth in the Premier League, above Chelsea, and qualify for the Champions League.

Ultimately, under Unai Emery, the Villans have made a lot of progress and are heading in the right direction. Losing Kellyman should not set them back too much, if at all.
