Club now have agreement to sign £35m Chelsea player who Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t want

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could be set for a move to AS Roma in the January transfer window.

Trevoh Chalobah has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea for months, and reports in Italy now suggest that he is closing in on a switch to Roma.

According to Il Romanista, the Giallorossi’s sporting director Tiago Pinto has secured an agreement for the 24-year-old’s services after making a trip to London.

Chalobah has not played a game this season because of injury, but the same outlet claims that he is not part of Mauricio Pochettino‘s plans.

Earlier this month, TEAMtalk reported that Crystal Palace were also interested in the centre-back and suggested that a £35m deal was possible.

Roma having an agreement to sign Chalobah obviously pushes him closer to the exit door at Stamford Bridge. And even if they do not have one, the former England U21 international still looks destined to leave the club.

With Pochettino having Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi to call upon right now, you just cannot see Chalobah getting minutes.

Levi Colwill, of course, is also a centre-back despite playing at left-back at this moment in time, while Wesley Fofana will be another option when he returns from injury.

Everything, then, is pointing towards a transfer for Chalobah, who is going to want game time, especially after missing the first half of this season.

He is not the only centre-back who could leave Chelsea in 2024, though. Silva is out of contract at the end of the campaign and there have been no noises about him signing a new one.

So it looks like there could be a little bit of a shake up in the centre-half department at Stamford Bridge next year.
