'Contact': Chelsea have already made first move to sign 'unbelievable' PL player, Romano says

Chelsea have reportedly already been in touch about a move to try sign Leeds United’s Raphinha in the summer.

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that there has already been “contact” from Chelsea with people close to Raphinha, albeit the player’s current focus is on his relegation fight with Leeds. They want to explore the possibility with his agent, too.

It is understood Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona are all interested in the 25-year-old’s signature.

The Brazilian winger, called “unbelievable” by club teammate Illan Meslier, has nine goals in 26 appearances so far this season.

Romano added he expects the Blues to make signings in the summer even with owner Roman Abramovich planning to sell the club.

Chelsea fans will forget about signings

For now, the focus of every supporter is on the future of the club.

It was confirmed on Thursday Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government, leading to the freezing of his assets.

There is a special licence in place for Chelsea to continue playing matches, but many restrictions imposed on the club are worrying.

For instance, the Blues can’t sell, buy or negotiate new contracts for players.

It’s going to take assistance and approval from the government to allow Abramovich to sell the club, too.

With so much confusion and uncertainty surrounding the Blues, looking to sign brand new players may be one of the last thing on people’s mind. It looks like a change of ownership will need to take place before they are back in the transfer market.
