Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is “definitely” driving his side’s interest in Everton star Anthony Gordon this summer, it’s been claimed.

According to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips, Blues manager Tuchel is urging his club to sign the 21-year-old from Premier League rivals Everton. That’s definitely pressure on interim sporting director Todd Boehly to get this transfer over the line.

Apparently, Tuchel believes that Gordon’s a versatile youngster who can do a job in several positions, including as a wing-back.

The £50million-rated Englishman is mainly recognised as an attacker, though.

Journalist Simon Phillips indicates that Tuchel could deploy Chelsea target Gordon as a right wing-back.

“It’s Tuchel who’s definitely driving it again. And I think he’s looking at the fact that Gordon can play as a right wing-back as well as a right-winger and also in the nine,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“So, that’s three positions that Tuchel wants to sign players in in the remaining two weeks of this window. So, Gordon can cover three of them, and I think that’s where the serious interest comes in, and I think largely, he’d probably be used as a right wing-back.”

Tuchel driving Gordon interest

If Chelsea sign Gordon, this sounds like a major deal that rests on Tuchel’s shoulders.

Hopefully, Tuchel has spotted something in the Everton rising star that makes him really want to work with him at Stamford Bridge.

The young speedster has blistering pace and energy, plus he’s regularly one of the best performers at Goodison Park for Frank Lampard’s side.

However, claims that he could move back into a wing-back role seems odd when you watch him play.

His short career so far has seen him high up the pitch running at opposition players with flair and trickery, so adding extra defensive duties to his game is a concern.
