Jamaican striker Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards said joining Chelsea is “a dream come true” after signing a pre-contract with the west London club.

Phoenix Allstar Football Academy, where Richards currently plays, have already announced the signing on Saturday.

Prior to signing for the Blues, the 17-year-old had undergone a two-week trial with Newcastle United which led to his reportedly being close to signing for the Toons, according to Chronicle Live.

The interest from Premier League clubs is hardly a surprise. The striker registered 31 goals and 19 assist for the Jamaican-based academy last season.

It is academy-level football but impressive numbers, nonetheless.

He has also recently received his first Jamaica call-up, which suggests that they also believe he is ready for senior football.

Richards will have to wait until his next birthday before he can legally play for the Blues, but he is clearly looking forward to it.

“What a dream come true,” the teenager wrote on Instagram.

“When I am 18 years old I will be able to play in the Premier League and for a club like Chelsea football club.

“Champions League winners and with such a high pedigree that I’m still so grateful to God for this opportunity to challenge other great talents on the colosseum of football.

“I would like to thank my coach and manager Craig Butler first for seeing the potential in me and then working on my weaknesses and building me to the level I am now.

“His guidance and perseverance has resulted in my getting this opportunity and signing this contract.”

This shows that Chelsea, under their new ownership group, are not going to stop bringing in young talents from across the world.

Fabrizio Romano previously claimed that the Blues are also close to signing 15-year-old Ecuadorian midfield talent Kendry Paez, with an agreement expected to be imminent.
