Chelsea have started to push several players out of the building recently, and the latest transfer speculation suggests another individual is about to leave.

Chelsea currently have lots of players on the books, so it feels inevitable that work will be done to trim down the squad.

The Blues have allowed the likes Alfie Gilchrist, Gabriel Slonina, Caleb Wiley and Teddy Sharman-Lowe to go out on loan this summer. Also, Lesley Ugochukwu completed a season-long loan switch to Premier League rivals Southampton on Friday.

The Athletic has claimed that Chelsea think Southampton is perfect for Ugochukwu’s development, so let’s hope the 20-year-old midfielder shines at St Mary’s.

Burnley agree deal for Bashir Humphreys

According to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano via X on Saturday, Burnley have now agreed a deal to sign Chelsea youngster Bashir Humphreys.

It is explained that Burnley has agreed to a loan that includes a mandatory buy clause. His switch to Turf Moor will become a permanent one on a five-year deal.

Apparently, the English Championship side consider the 21-year-old Chelsea defender as important for both now and the future.

Humphreys does have experience playing in England’s second tier after a loan with Swansea City last season. Incidentally, former Swansea manager Michael Duff hailed Humphreys as “outstanding” last year, via Swansea’s official website.

The young centre-back has been on Chelsea’s books since the Under-15s, playing two first-team games for the Blues. It sounds like his future in West London is coming to a close, though.

Chelsea stacked at centre-half

Humphreys’ route into the senior Chelsea squad looks blocked right now, so a permanent exit feels a bit of a no-brainer.

Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo provide the first-team options in the centre of defence for Chelsea in this new season. Let’s hope that from that a quality new-look partnership emerges.

On paper, Fofana and Colwill look like they could be the strongest pairing if everything clicks into gear.
