Hull City are close to an agreement to sign on-loan Chelsea midfielder Xavier Simons on a permanent deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 20-year-old joined Hull on a season-long loan last summer, having featured regularly for the Blues development squad last season.
Simons made his senior debut in December 2021 when Chelsea faced Brentford in a Carabao Cup tie.
It was his only involvement in first-team matches, however, so it is no surprise he decided to pursue regular football on a Championship loan.
Unfortunately, Simons has mostly been behind more senior options, such as Jean Michael Seri and Ryan Woods, in the midfield pecking order.
He has only featured four times in the league, with two of them as a starter.

But Hull boss Liam Rosenior seems to rate the young, versatile midfielder highly hence their reported attempt to sign Simons permanently in January.
It did not happen, but a summer move may be on the cards.
Romano claims that Hull and Chelsea are now close to a full agreement over the deal.
“Hull City are closing in on an agreement to sign Xavier Simons on a permanent deal from Chelsea,” the Italian journalist wrote on Twitter.
“Last details are being ironed out in order to get it sealed
“Negotiations are at the final stages between the parties, the player has already approved the move.”
Chelsea have brought in several midfield talents, such as Cesare Casadei, who is now on loan at Reading, Carney Chukwuemeka, and more recently Andrey Santos in the last two transfer windows.
This might have played a part in Simons’ reported decision to leave Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal.
