Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea not close to agreeing new deal with fan-favourite

Chelsea and Mason Mount are not close to an agreement over a new contract with the club ready to name their price for the midfielder this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Earlier CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs mentioned that Chelsea do not have a price in mind for Ben Chilwell amid an interest from Manchester City.

This suggests that Chelsea are unlikely to entertain any offer for the left-back.

The situation is quite different with Mason Mount who is now close to entering the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge.

Romano claims that, while Chelsea have not given up on a possible contract extension, they are also prepared to offload the academy graduate.

“At the moment, I’m told there is a big gap between Mount and Chelsea in the negotiations,” the Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel.

“So it’s a concrete possibility for Mount to leave Chelsea at the end of the season.

“It’s not guaranteed yet, the conversation and negotiation are still there, but if before the summer they do not reach an agreement, there is a serious possibility that Mount will be available on the market and with a price tag.”

Mount missed Chelsea’s last three games due to an abdominal injury and suspension, but it seems that he is playing a less and less significant role in the team following the arrival of Joao Felix.

Felix is, of course, on a short-term loan without any buy option, so Chelsea might still end up having to sign a new attacking midfielder if they sold Mount and failed to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid over a permanent deal.
