Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge in January.

Fabrizio Romano, writing in his Substack column, has refuted reports linking Marc Cucurella with a move to Sevilla.

According to the transfer expert, the left-back will not be joining Sevilla next month. “I can say no”, he said in response to the rumours.

Cucurella is currently out injured and will not be back in action until February, so it is not a shock to hear that he will not be on the move when the transfer window reopens.

With both the 25-year-old Spaniard and Ben Chilwell sidelined, Levi Colwill has had no real competition for the left-back spot in recent weeks.

Chelsea should not sell Marc Cucurella in the January transfer window

Cucurella has shown his worth this season. He has made eight starts in the Premier League, playing at both left-back and right-back.

With Chilwell and Reece James both unable to remain fit, it would probably be a good idea to keep Cucurella around for the rest of the campaign.

At the end of the season, they can re-evaluate and decide whether a new left-back is needed or not. A lot will depend on whether Chilwell can get over his injury woes and prove it.

What the above shows is that Chelsea have had a lot of fitness issues this term, especially in the full-back position, which is why there may have to be some changes there.

There is no doubt that all of these injuries have contributed to the club’s poor Premier League campaign. Still, Mauricio Pochettino has a squad that is good enough not to be in the bottom half of the table, where Chelsea currently find themselves.

Injuries or no injuries, that is not good enough and, for the Argentine’s sake, something needs to change soon.
