Fabrizio Romano shared the conversations he had with player agents who had recently been in contact with Chelsea over potential transfers before the sanctioning of club owner Roman Abramovich.

The UK government have provided Chelsea the licence to operate on a limited basis, but it, unfortunately, does not include any transfer activities or contract renewals.

This may still change, as the Blues intend to hold discussions with the government and seek permission to amend the licence.

According to Romano, Chelsea had been working on transfers behind the scenes, and those plans are now in jeopardy.

“[This] morning I was speaking to some agents who told me, ‘We don’t know how to proceed now with Chelsea, for potential new signings,'” the Italian transfer expert told FIVE’s YouTube channel.

“For example, [Sevilla’s] Jules Kounde, who is a player that Chelsea wanted last summer and they also want for the future.

“But his agents are still waiting to see what’s next. They were talking with Chelsea, planning for a summer move.

As of now, everything is of course on stand-by, and this can be a huge problem for Chelsea.

“This is why the situation is really dangerous for Chelsea’s transfer activities.”

The inability to bring in a new defender in the summer will arguably hurt Chelsea the most.

Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta are in the final months of their contract at the club and based on the current licence, they cannot offer them any extension.
