Chelsea and Barcelona are both eyeing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams after his excellent performances at Euro 2024.
Out of Chelsea and Barcelona, though, the latter seem to be the club who are at the front of the queue for Nico Williams‘ signature.
Chelsea’s interest in Williams has scared Barcelona, but the Catalan side still look to be in a very good position to land him this summer.
It would see the 22-year-old link-up with Lamine Yamal, with the two both helping Spain to win the European Championship.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Nico Williams amid Chelsea and Barcelona interest
It looks like the future of Williams could be decided soon. Marc Cucurella wants Williams at Chelsea, with the two linking up at the Euros this summer, but the Blues defender may not get his wish.
Barcelona appear to be going all out for the Athletic Bilbao star’s signature. Romano recently claimed on X that his agent met with Barcelona director Deco on Wednesday.
“The agent has met with Barcelona director Deco today [yesterday],” the transfer expert posted. “Face to face meeting took place in Zaragoza.”
It will now be interesting to see whether Chelsea make their own move for Williams following Barcelona’s latest play.
Where does Nico Williams play?
Williams’ best position is on the left, where he played at Euro 2024. The Spain international was so dangerous there, managing to score in the final against England.
In total, Williams registered two goals and one assist in six outings in Germany. According to WhoScored, only one player in Luis de la Fuente’s squad averaged more dribbles per game than him, showing how skilful he was on the ball.
He could be a real asset to Enzo Maresca if Chelsea can get their hands on him this summer. As of now, though, it looks like Barcelona will probably win the race for his signature.
There are other left wingers who Chelsea can sign, though. Chelsea were a frontrunner for Desire Doue, it had previously been claimed. But after his displays at Euro 2024, Williams is the winger supporters will want.
