Fabrizio Romano has now commented on whether Chelsea could sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG this summer.
The France international has hit the headlines after informing PSG that he will not sign a new contract, with his current terms set to expire in 2024.
That means PSG must sell their No.7 this summer, or they risk losing their £166m man for nothing in 2024.
So, what did Fabrizio Romano say about Chelsea‘s chances of signing Kylian Mbappe? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the reliable Italian journalist poured cold water on links between Chelsea and the 24-year-old.
Romano said on YouTube: “Chelsea had an interest in the situation one year ago and wanted to be informed on the Mbappe situation, but now, the feeling around Chelsea is that they want to do different things.
“They don’t want to enter into crazy things, so the situation around Chelsea and Mbappe is, at the moment, quiet. They obviously appreciate the player but sources close to them confirm that they are not working on this one, at least not of now.”

Clearly, Chelsea have no intention of getting involved in the race to sign Mbappe this summer.
While some may be annoyed about that, nobody expected to see this situation occur, and many clubs are not financially prepared to launch a serious bid for the Bondy-born sensation right now.
Chelsea must wish Mbappe situation happened in 2022
If this news had broken last summer, Chelsea would have arguably been among the favourites to sign Mbappe.
The Blues had money to burn after Todd Boehly arrived at Stamford Bridge, and had only recently won the UEFA Champions League, making them a highly attractive outfit.

However – this summer – Chelsea must be careful after spending over £600m in the last 12 months, while there is also no European football to offer Mbappe after finishing 12th in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, the timing is all wrong for Chelsea at this moment.
