Ivan Fresneda has now approached Chelsea after Barcelona decided against signing the Real Valladolid No.27 this summer.

That is according to Mundo Deportivo.

So, what is the latest on Ivan Fresneda and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Fabrizio Romano – Chelsea are not planning to sign the Spaniard this summer, despite an earlier story from Mundo Deportivo labelling the Blues as favourites to get him.

The Spanish news outlet insist on linking Fresneda with a move to Chelsea despite Romano’s contrary claims, as they now release a new article about the Spain Under-19 international.

It is said that the 18-year-old himself has approached Chelsea, after Barcelona decided to sign Joao Cancelo instead.

Due to Financial Fair Play regulations, Xavi cannot bring both to the Camp Nou.

As a result, Fresneda appears to have taken matters into his own hands, as the teenager approaches Chelsea to ask about the possibility of moving to Stamford Bridge.

Mundo Deportivo believe the defender’s chances of joining Chelsea – before being loaned out – are now high, and the Blues could even sign him for just €10m (£9m), half of his €20m (£18m) release clause.

Ivan Fresneda may be worth signing if Chelsea can strike £9m deal

In our previous coverage of the Fresneda saga, we have stated it would be a bad idea to sign him – given the fact Reece James and Malo Gusto are already at Stamford Bridge.

However, if Chelsea can agree a deal for just £9m, it may be worth signing Fresneda and loaning him out.

The Spanish wonderkid boasts a huge amount of potential, and the potential benefits of buying him for only £9m far outweigh the risks.

Even if Fresneda – who has been called a “fantastic” player – doesn’t kick a ball for Chelsea, but performs well on loan, the Blues would be well placed to at least double their £9m investment.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as links between Fresneda and Chelsea will not go away.
