Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson believes Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell would fill the void left by Ashley Cole years ago.
The 23-year-old has reportedly been Chelsea’s primary target ahead of the summer transfer window, as Chelsea seem to prepare for an overhaul.
According to a report from The Times, Leicester are increasingly resigned to losing the England international, but still demanding a £75million fee.
An unbelievable price to pay during this pandemic crisis but Johnson who spent four years at Stamford Bridge thinks Chilwell could be the left-back Chelsea have been missing since Ashley Cole’s departure in 2014.

Speaking on Talksport’s White and Sawyer’s show, he said: “I’ve said many times I am a fan of Chilwell. I like the way he carries himself.
“You don’t really hear him unless it’s football-related which I like, and I think he’s the sort of player Lamps [Lampard] would connect with.
“He’s the sort of out-and-out left-back they haven’t had for a while.
“I know Ashley Cole was irreplaceable, but in terms of a natural, solid left-back, they haven’t had one for a while and I think he’ll do very well.”

The former Liverpool right-back also insinuated that Chilwell would be a better fit for Chelsea compared to Marcos Alonso since he is more of a wingback than a fullback.
“Alonso is a fantastic player,” he added. “There’s no doubt he is a wonderful footballer but Chilwell is a natural fullback.
“It’s a hefty price tag, there’s no doubting that, but if [Chelsea] can get a deal for him that is reasonable, then he’s a player they should try to get.”
