Dean Jones has apparently been made aware that Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku is desperate to recover from his awful World Cup campaign.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones relayed the information he’d been informed about regarding the suffering Inter Milan striker.

Lukaku will not look back on his time in Qatar with fond memories.

The 29-year-old was a doubt even to take part in the competition.

He had been recovering from an injury that forced him to miss the four club fixtures leading up to the tournament.

Roberto Martinez took a risk by including the forward in his Belgium squad, despite admitting he probably wouldn’t feature until at least the second match.

Martinez was true to his word, bringing on Lukaku for the final nine minutes of Belgium’s damming 2-0 defeat to Morocco.

He increased his game time by a whole half in the crucial final group contest against Croatia.

In hindsight, Chelsea’s record-signing might have wished he remained on the bench completely.

Brought on at the break to try and save Belgium’s World Cup dreams, Lukaku endured a nightmare second-half.

Onlookers watched on in despair as the attacker squandered four huge opportunities that could’ve sealed the tie for the Martinez’s men.

Lukaku wants to wash away World Cup woes

Belgium departed the World Cup with a whimper, in no small part to their number nine’s inability to find the back of the net.

It was a performance that epitomised the torrid past few months for Lukaku.

Yet, Jones reported that the forlorn figure is not prepared to simply lie down and accept defeat.

“From what I’m told, he’s trying to get his head straight immediately. He’s working hard so that he can bounce back from the first game of the restart,” said the transfer insider on Lukaku’s mindset.

Inter have a friendly scheduled against Real Betis this weekend, before their Serie A journey resumes on the 29th of December.

Will Lukaku be fully fit and firing by then? For his sake, Chelsea fans hope so.
