Fulham co-owner Tony Khan has ruled out a loan deal for Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr because of a Premier League rule.

Chelsea signed the 21-year-old on a free transfer and plan to send the young defender out on loan for the 2020/21 season.

As things stand, however, his temporary destination remains unclear.

Chelsea’s neighbours Fulham would have been a great club for Sarr since it would be a good opportunity for him to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.

The Cottagers are also in the middle of a centre-back crisis, as pointed out by Khan, who is also the club’s director of football.

He wrote on Twitter: “We have looked to add [a] centre-back since Wembley [Championship play-off final on 4 August].

“I’m sorry we haven’t yet as two got covid-19, we lost a free [transfer] we thought [was] close and had another issue with a fourth centre-back.”

When a Fulham fan replied suggesting a loan deal for Sarr as an option, Khan ruled the move out.

“We can’t loan in Sarr,” he replied.

“You can’t go out on loan to another Premier League team in the same [transfer] window in which you signed in.”

For now, Sarr is training with his Chelsea teammates while waiting for a decision from the Blues regarding his future.
