Glenn Hoddle really impressed by what Chelsea loanee did in last night’s performance

Glenn Hoddle praised Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku after his goal in the Champions League last night.

The striker came off the bench for Inter Milan in their European tie against Porto, scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory. His bullet header hit the post, but he reacted quickly in the box to convert the rebound.

He’s yet to hit his best form since rejoining Inter last summer on a season-long loan from Chelsea. However, there are signs he’s rediscovering his best after scoring in back-to-back games.

Inter will now travel to Portugal for the second leg with a one-goal aggregate lead over Porto.

BT Sport pundit Hoddle was really impressed by Lukaku’s strike in midweek.

“It was a great header, actually. He was a bit unlucky. That’s not as easy as you think [on the rebound]; it’s coming back, which shows his agility,” Hoddle told BT Sport 2 (10:05pm, 22 February).

There’s never been much doubt about what Lukaku can do in the penalty box, which is why he’s scored so many goals in his club and international career.

Can he impact games enough and link up with his teammates, though?

Chelsea decided to ship him out on loan this year after a difficult time at Stamford Bridge last season.

Hopefully, Lukaku is over his injury problems now and he can kick on in Inter colours.

Lukaku’s return to Chelsea last season didn’t work out as expected after spending £97.5million on him.

However, he did still score 15 goals across all competitions and it doesn’t look like anyone in the current Blues squad will get close to that tally this campaign.

It goes to show how much of a problem the No.9 position has been at Stamford Bridge for several years now.

We can’t see Lukaku reigniting his Chelsea career next season in West London, but the club really needs to address the striker position quickly.
