Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has praised Philippe Coutinho and is hoping the on-loan star could stay beyond this summer amid reported Chelsea interest.
Previous reports, including from German outlet Bild, claimed Bayern have made it clear they are not going to exercise the permanent option for Coutinho.
The-27-year-old has a respectable record of eight goals and six assists from 22 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, but it hardly justifies the money Bayern would have to spend to keep him.
According to the statement from Barcelona’s official website, Bayern are currently paying an €8.5million loan fee plus Coutinho’s full salary this year.
And the loan deal has an option to buy at a fixed price of €120m.
Instead of waiting for Coutinho to return to Camp Nou, Barcelona have offered the play-maker to several clubs including Chelsea, according to a report from Sky Sports.

However, Bayern’s Thiago wants to see him stay at the Allianz Arena.
In an interview with Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, Thiago said he has known Coutinho from an early age.
He added: “He lacks nothing. I love playing with high-level footballers and he is a phenomenon.
“Players go through good moments and some not so good ones and he brings us a lot.
“We hope he continues to be with us next season.”

It is very unlike to Bayern to spend the ridiculous money needed to sign Coutinho permanently, especially considering today’s financial situation.
A fresh loan deal, however, could be on the cards as Barcelona are reportedly willing to send him on another temporary spell.
Chelsea would still be an attractive destination for Coutinho, as his agent previously said his client also wants a Premier League return.
