'He wants to take the next step': Bayer Leverkusen CEO speaks about Kai Havertz's potential exit

Bayer Leverkusen chairman Fernando Carro has admitted that reported Chelsea target Kai Havertz wants to leave the club to fulfil his ambition.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea prepare for likely departures of Willian and Pedro Rodriguez whose contracts expire this summer.

Hakim Ziyech is expected to join Frank Lampard’s squad soon, and according to reports, so is Timo Werner, although the RB Leipzig striker’s transfer is yet to be announced.

Leverkusen chief Carro has recently responded to rumours surrounding Havertz’s future as he acknowledges the star’s desire to leave.

Caro told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger: “Regarding Kai Havertz, I see that many clubs are interested in him.

“Kai has been with us for ten years. I see the player’s desire to take the next step sometime in the near future.

“You have to try to find a solution where the player’s goal can be reconciled with ours.

“At the moment nobody can say for sure what will happen.”

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported that several clubs are in talks for Havertz, but nothing is advanced or decided yet.

He also added that Chelsea are yet to make an offer and just like Bayern Munich, the Blues are just been in talks for the versatile midfielder.
