Chelsea have confirmed that Matt Miazga has left on loan to join Alaves until the end of the season.

This will be the fifth stint away from Stamford Bridge for the American since he was signed from New York Red Bulls back in 2016.

The 26-year-old has been shipped all across the continent, from Holland to France, back to England and over to Belgium.

His previous clubs have included Vitesse Arnhem, where he spent two pretty successful seasons.

Miazga then moved to Nantes, before Reading signed him for the 2019/20 campaign.

Most recently, the defender was found under the wing of Anderlecht. Here, he made 33 appearances and scored just his tenth senior goal.

He recently returned to Cobham for pre-season training, where the centre-back featured in friendlies against Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur.

But it was always going to be a mammoth effort for Miazga to make an assault on Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

So many have not made the cut this term, including first-teamers from last year.

Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud were sold; Billy Gilmour and Emerson Palmieri loaned out.

Michy Batshuayi’s loan to Besiktas continued to clear out, with several more set to follow.
