Journalist Sami Mokbel has claimed on the Simon Phillips Substack that Chelsea have been given the chance to sign Celtic’s Josip Juranovic this month.

The right-back could be the latest addition to the Blues’ sensational January transfer window.

They have strengthened for the future with the likes of Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana, whilst also bringing in plenty of players for the current first team.

The likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix will be looking to instantly make an impact, whilst it is expected that the transfer of Noni Madueke will be announced soon.

One position many have hoped the club will strengthen in is right-back, given the rough injury record in recent months for Reece James.

The England international has featured for just 45 minutes since October when he was injured against AC Milan.

Chelsea offered chance to sign Juranovic

His absence has caused Graham Potter a real issue in finding a suitable replacement for the right-back position.

Now, Mokbel has claimed that they may have an option available in the form of Juranovic.

He said: “I was told much earlier in the window that Josip Juranovic had been offered to Chelsea, that wasn’t turned down flat and is one that remains an option for them.”

Juranovic enjoyed a very strong World Cup campaign as part of the Croatia side who finished with a bronze medal.

He was described by Gary Neville as ‘fantastic’ during the competition, and his affordable price tag made many sure that he was set for a move away from Scotland.

The Blues have also been linked with the signing of Denzel Dumfries in the position after his strong showing in Qatar. However, the inflated price Inter Milan would require leaves Juranovic the ideal signing for the position.
