Ian Wright has raved about the quality of Chelsea’s Reece James and thinks he’s one of the top two right-backs in the world.

James, 23, is a talented Blues defender who’s become a real fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.

The English right-back has had issues this season with a couple of different knee injuries, but he recently returned to start the club’s last two consecutive games in the Premier League.

It’s been proven that Chelsea look a far better side when James is on the pitch. He’s still fighting to get back to his very best after more time on the sidelines, though.

Ian Wright loves Reece James

Pundit Ian Wright has made it clear he’s a massive admirer of James. In fact, he believes Chelsea’s academy graduate ranks alongside Paris Saint-Germain’s 24-year-old star Achraf Hakimi as the best right-back in the sport.

When discussing James on ‘The Kelly and Wrighty show’, Wright said: “He’s got everything. Defending, attacking, technical ability. Everything. Everything in respects of a right-back right now, I think him and Hakimi are the best in the world right now. He’s just brilliant, he’s a fantastic player.”

You won’t find many Chelsea fans disagreeing on this.

It’s spot on that James offers so much as both an offensive and defensive presence when he’s in the mood.

James has admitted this week that it’s impossible for him to play every single minute, so sensibly managing his game time is something that Graham Potter will need to do.

This Wednesday night’s trip to Borussia Dortmund is the type of fixture Chelsea need their best possible XI out on the pitch. Therefore, we expect James to be starting and pivotal during the game.

If the Blues can put together a surprise run in the Champions League, perhaps that will become the club’s focus due to the disappointing league season so far. It could be wise to rotate between domestic and European games.
