‘I’m hearing’: Journalist suggests Chelsea may look to sign £60m PL star ‘ripping it up’ right now

Chelsea may reportedly look to target a player like Leicester City’s James Maddison.

Maddison, 25, has been a shining light for Premier League struggles Leicester so far this season.

The attacking midfielder already has five goals in nine appearances this term, which follows on from the previous campaign where he got 30 direct goal contributions (18 goals, 12 assists).

Gary Neville recently said the Leicester playmaker is “ripping it up” in the Premier League, but somehow he still can’t force his way into the plans of England boss Gareth Southgate.

Chelsea may target James Maddison

According to well-respected journalist Ben Jacobs, Maddison is the kind of creative player Chelsea may end up targeting.

In fact, he suggests the Leicester star’s name has already been spoken about by the Blues hierarchy.

Jacobs said on ChelseaFC365’s podcast: “It wouldn’t remotely surprise me if his form continues, especially if there are some outgoings, even with Mount at the club, if Chelsea start to consider somebody like a James Maddison. If Pulisic and or Ziyech were to leave, he could still play with Mount because Maddison is a very versatile kind of player.

“I’m hearing growing rumblings about Chelsea, at least considering a player like James Maddison.”

£60m price tag in the summer

The way Maddison has performed in the past couple of years for Leicester proves he’s more than good enough to play for one of the elite teams in England.

However, Chelsea need to assess whether they would have room for someone like him in the side.

The Daily Mail reported in August that Leicester wanted £60million for their talisman amid interest from Newcastle United, who only wanted to pay £35million.

If Maddison sneaks into the England squad for the winter World Cup, you would think the Foxes can ramp his valuation up even higher. It’s worth noting that his current contract at the King Power Stadium does end in 2024, though.
