'I'm told': Journalist says club could sell attacker Chilwell thinks is 'amazing', after Chelsea transfer links
Manchester City could reportedly end up in a position where they consider selling their star Riyad Mahrez, after recent transfer links to Chelsea
Well-respected journalist Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Man City would be far more open to offloading Mahrez than Gabriel Jesus if they are to sell an attacker at the end of the season.
Intriguingly, Chelsea have been linked with left-footed winger Mahrez this month. They are eyeing the 31-year-old as a potential summer target, but would face competition from European rivals Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.
He’s a player that’s perhaps gone a little bit under the radar compared to some others around.
The Man City ace has 23 goals and nine assists already this season across all competitions, which has included making vital contributions during his team’s run to the Champions League semi-final.
There’s plenty of connections at Chelsea with Mahrez due to his previous time at Leicester City. He was famously part of a title-winning team at the King Power Stadium alongside N’Golo Kante.
In addition, he did play alongside Ben Chilwell at Leicester. Chelsea wing-back Chilwell has previously described his ex-teammate as “amazing”.
Chelsea attack needs a boost
It’s unclear on how serious Chelsea’s interest in Mahrez. However, he’s the type of marquee signing you feel would have a chance of adding something extra to the Blues attack,.
There’s been numerous forwards in recent years try and fail at Stamford Bridge to really reach full potential. Romelu Lukaku is the latest to fall into that trap.
The one big tick you’d stick next to Mahrez’s name is that he’s been a big success at two Premier League sides already, though.
Blues manager Thomas Tuchel just needs something extra special from his wide players, as well as ideally another striker that can hit the 20-goal mark on a consistent basis.
