Chelsea might have to battle even harder to sign Ivan Perisic thanks to the efforts of Inter Milan to tie down their player.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A side have ‘improved their proposal’ to Perisic following a meeting about extending his contract.

Inter make improved proposal to Perisic

The 33-year-old’s deal expires next month, allowing him to leave the San Siro as a free agent unless an extension can be agreed.

Despite his age, the Croatian has again proved to be a pivotal performer in Simone Inzaghi’s team, who finished second in the league behind AC Milan.

He scored ten goals and provided nine assists in 49 games, missing just three matches across all competitions.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Inter would like to keep him around for a little while longer.

However, having been with the I Nerazzurri for over half a decade since his £17m (Sky Sports) move from Wolfsburg in 2015, Perisic would be excused for wanting a change of scenery.

How does the Premier League panorama sound?

There appears to be several English clubs who would like to show the Croat around, mainly taking him to the sights in London.

Chelsea to challenge Tottenham for Perisic

Tottenham Hotspur are apparently intrigued by the versatile winger, reportedly joined in their pursuit by Chelsea as well.

In fact, the Blues are said to be the most likely option for Perisic if he opts to leave Inter this summer.

This interest stretches back to 2017 when Antonio Conte was still in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Now in the Spurs dugout, Conte looks set to spark his curiosity once again.

But the Italian manager might have to fend off his former employers for Perisic’s approval.

Thomas Tuchel will be looking to improve his squad after failing to successful challenge Manchester City on the domestic front this year.

His need to add extra quality has been heightened by the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, with Marcos Alonso possibly about to join them.

If Alonso leaves, Tuchel will require cover at left wing-back, a position Perisic prominently played under Inzaghi.

A match made in heaven?
