Chelsea rejected the chance to sign Neymar from PSG in June – as the Blues instead chose to prioritise the development of Mykhailo Mudryk.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the situation involving Neymar and Mykhailo Mudryk for Chelsea fans to digest? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes Chelsea opted to keep faith with the Ukraine international, rather than bring the Brazilian superstar to Stamford Bridge as competition.

Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: “In June, PSG offered the possibility of signing Neymar to Chelsea, but they decided to protect the players they have, including Mudryk – they invested big money on Mudryk for that position. They wanted to protect their young investments.”

Now, that is quite the bold decision from Chelsea.

Of course, Neymar is not the prolific forward he was during his time at Barcelona anymore, but the 31-year-old is still one of the greatest players on the planet right now.

Therefore, it speaks volumes that Chelsea chose to ignore the PSG No.10 in favour of Mudryk.

Neymar is now close to joining Al Hilal in a £77.6m move – according to the BBC.

Chelsea were right to choose Mudryk over Neymar

In our view, Chelsea made a sensible decision here.

Of course, many fans may feel frustrated to hear that Chelsea rejected someone as established as Neymar, although logic is needed here.

Mudryk is nine years younger than the South American, and represents the future of the game – in contrast, Neymar represents the past.

Chelsea invested a lot into Mudryk, and there is no denying that he has the talent to become as good as Neymar if he fulfils his vast potential.

Therefore, it makes sense for those at Stamford Bridge to keep faith with the Ukrainian wonderkid, rather than harm his development in favour of signing someone who is on the way down.
