Plenty of Chelsea supporters on social media were excited at the prospect of Billy Gilmour potentially joining Norwich City on loan.

According to Sky Sports, Norwich are nearing a deal with Marina Granovskaia to take Gilmour for next season.

It is said that the young Scotsman has already agreed to join then Canaries and just needs to complete his medical.

The 20-year-old is currently isolating after testing positive for covid19, but will come out of his segregation on Thursday.

A player of Gilmour’s abilities deserves to be playing regularly, which is something Chelsea have yet offer him.

Blues fans felt this was a wise move for the talented midfielder, as they wished him well on his new journey.

Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:

This could well be a career defining moment for Gilmour.

Up to this point, he’s been on the periphery of Chelsea’s first team.

He made just 11 appearances last term, starting eight of those.

His European Championship campaign concluded far too soon as well, after Scotland were dumped out in the group stages.

But getting regular game time with Norwich is definitely a decent way to develop and prove to the Blues he belongs in their set-up.

However, Graeme Souness said his fellow Scotsman should stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

Alternatively, Gilmour could impress with the Canaries so much, they decide to bring him on full-time.

Either way, followers of Chelsea and rivals alike will finally be able to witness the youngster in full, rather than bit parts here and there.
