‘It doesn’t work’: David Moyes aims dig at what Chelsea have done in the transfer market

West Ham United manager David Moyes has had a little dig at Chelsea and their recent transfer business.

The Hammers boss was speaking ahead of his side’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League.

“We’ve not got room to just go and buy more players,” he told the media and West Ham’s official website. “You have to have a plan of where you’re going to put them.

“And I think if anything would be a sort of gauge, or anything to gauge yourself on, you need to just look at the amount of players Chelsea have bought. It doesn’t work.”

The Blues have been extremely active in the transfer market this year, especially in January.

They bought the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk, but it could not prevent them from finishing 12th last season.

Chelsea’s squad is now in much better shape

After all of those signings, it is probably fair to say that Chelsea’s squad was bloated. However, after a bit of a clear-out this summer, it is now more manageable.

Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kalidou Koulibaly, to name a few players, have all left Stamford Bridge.

It is still early days for individuals such as Fernandez and Mudryk, so more time may need to pass before you can truly judge Chelsea’s January transfer window.

That has obviously not stopped Moyes, whose side take on Chelsea at the London Stadium next week. It would now be funny to see the Blues’ recent acquisitions run riot in east London.

It was 1-1 there last season, and with West Ham being one of their rivals, it is never an easy fixture.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have had a good pre-season, though, and if they can pick up a positive result against Liverpool tomorrow, who knows what that could do for their confidence going into that London derby next Sunday?
