Frank Leboeuf had admitted he’s shocked by the transfer rumour that Chelsea’s Kai Havertz could be joining Real Madrid.
There’s speculation in the media that Kai Havertz, 23, could be one of the high-profile stars to exit Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.
BILD claimed yesterday that Real Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign Havertz for around £52million.
The German attacker was Chelsea’s joint-top scorer this season with nine goals across all competitions, but he’s largely failed to live up to his potential during three seasons as a Blues player. Of course, scoring the winning goal in a Champions League final a couple of years ago is the main exception to that.

ESPN pundit Leboeuf suggests that Havertz would be making a mistake if he left Chelsea to join Madrid:
“It’s a surprise for me just to see the interest of Real Madrid,” Leboeuf told ESPN.
“He’s not the player he used to be. His influence on the field is not there anymore, like it used to be when he was playing for Leverkusen.
“If he’s ready to be a substitute, he can go to Real Madrid because that’s what he’s going to get… If it suits him, fine by me, he can go there and he will have a little part to play.”

We’re very much on the fence when it comes to Havertz.
If the left-footed playmaker gets a run of starts in a No 10 position next season, we wouldn’t mind him sticking around to try prove himself under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, we definitely understand the temptation to sell him for £50million-plus in this window.
Our guess is that Havertz will still achieve great things in the future and he’s supremely talented, but sometimes a club is just not the right fit.
