The future of one Chelsea player remains very unclear as we head towards the start of the 2025/26 domestic season.

Joao Felix is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge at the moment, and was not selected to be with the squad for the Club World Cup campaign.

The Portugal star has not made an appearance for Chelsea since January after it was decided he would be loaned out for the remainder of this season.

It has become pretty clear that he won’t play for the club again. Felix’s shirt number has been handed to Dario Essugo, who has made a number of cameo appearances in the United States since joining the club.

He scored just one Premier League goal for the Blues, with that coming within minutes of entering the field on his second debut against Wolves.

Felix wants to join Benfica this summer, after a number of failed spells with big European sides since he left the Portuguese club.

According to Record, Benfica are genuinely considering making a move, with there being a possibility that they make a bid to sign him.

However, the report goes on to say that they are only willing to offer around half of the price Chelsea paid to sign the attacker, while his current wages sit above their current salary cap.

It remains to be seen if they would be willing to break these limits to bring in one of their own, or whether Felix would accept a lowball offer out of desperation to get out of Stamford Bridge.

Joao Felix’s busy summer so far

After his loan at AC Milan came to an end, Felix has not been spotted in any sort of training session with the rest of the Chelsea players.

This group are now in the United States, and just two games away from being crowned the winners of the Club World Cup.

Felix attended the opening game of the competition which did not involve Chelsea, and so far has not been spotted supporting his parent club.

All parties will be hoping that the attacker gets his desired move this summer, and that the Blues can move on from what has been a terrible signing.
