Chelsea are desperate to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer, according to reports.

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that the Blues want the 27-year-old striker playing his football at Stamford Bridge next season.

Writing on his Substack, Phillips explains that his “best source” says Chelsea really want to sign Ivan Toney now. In fact, his potential betting ban may be the only reason they’ve not tried to secure a deal yet.

“I’ve been told now by multiple sources, and again this weekend by my best source, that Chelsea really want to sign Toney. The latter source in particular believes that if it wasn’t for his potential betting ban pending, then we would have tried to put a pre-deal in place for the summer already,” Phillips said.

This is further significant speculation that suggests Toney is in Chelsea’s sights.

Football London reported in April that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Toney and may be interested in signing the Brentford centre-forward.

The English frontman has 21 goals across all competitions so far this season, including 20 in the Premier League. Therefore, we won’t be surprised if the elite teams have been alerted to his individual quality.

Incidentally, iNews claimed last year that Brentford would want at least £40million to sell Toney.

We absolutely love watching Toney play this season.

On top of his goals, Brentford No.9 is a great footballer and looks such a handful for defenders to come up against.

He didn’t score in his side’s 1-0 league defeat against Liverpool over the weekend, but he caused them so many issues whenever he got on the ball. Incidentally, Micah Richards said Toney was “outstanding” during his performance against Liverpool.
