Chelsea have thought about bringing AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham back to Stamford Bridge.
That is according to journalist Simon Phillips.
On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Phillips has told Blues supporters that Tammy Abraham is a centre-forward to “keep an eye on” in the club’s search for a new No.9.
According to the journalist, one or two at Stamford Bridge have pondered a reunion and the 25-year-old’s name has been discussed.
Chelsea sold Abraham to Roma for £34m in 2021. He really impressed in his first season at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring 27 goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Tammy Abraham not a bad option
If Chelsea cannot sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, for example, then Abraham could be a great alternative.
The England international obviously knows the club very well and has already shown that he can do it in the Premier League.
Back in the 2019/20 season, Abraham scored 15 goals in 34 top-flight appearances, helping Frank Lampard’s side to qualify for the Champions League.
Perhaps Chelsea should not have sold him. He surely would not have done any worse than Romelu Lukaku, though, of course, this is all hindsight.
Still, if the Blues selling Abraham really was a mistake, there is no reason why they cannot correct it.
Whether it is Toney, Osimhen, Abraham or someone else, Chelsea need to sign a new striker, as they are really struggling to score goals and have had this problem for a while now. It is hard to imagine it going away if they do not.
