Chelsea are reportedly want to make Sevilla defender Jules Kounde their first signing under Todd Boehly’s new ownership of the club this summer.

According to the Athletic, the Blues are confident in signing the France international this summer despite the La Liga side recently losing Kounde’s centre-back partner Diego Carlos to Aston Villa, with Sevilla likely to accept an offer of around £50m for the Chelsea target.

The west London side famously came close to signing Kounde last summer, with personal terms from those round of talks still remaining valid as per the Athletic. Though as we know, Sevilla were unwilling to accept Chelsea’s transfer offer for the 23-year-old defender.

With Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both leaving Chelsea this summer, defensive reinforcements are a certain for Thomas Tuchel’s side in the coming months, with Kounde the west London side’s number one target for the position alongside RB Leipzig talent Josko Gvardiol, as per the Athletic.

After another impressive season with Sevilla, it makes sense why Chelsea still want to sign Kounde, with the defender one of the best in Europe in his age group and already very experienced at both an international level with France as well as on the European stage with the Andalusian club.

Whilst the transfer fee could be viewed as high, Boehly is reportedly ready to spend big this summer, and a £50m signing on a position that needs urgent additions will be a great way for the American to win early support from Chelsea fans in the transfer window.

Chelsea have arguably their biggest summer in years coming up, and wrapping up the signing of Kounde as quickly as possible will be the perfect way for the club and Boehly to kick off the transfer window.

The France defender has been one of the best centre-backs in La Liga for the past two seasons, and with Chelsea desperate for a quality addition at the back, signing Kounde sooner rather than later will be a great sign of intent from the club and from their new American owener.
