Leeds United have now taken note of Chelsea signing Romeo Lavia as Premier League clubs attempt to buy Wilfried Gnonto.
That is according to The Athletic.
So, what has been said about Leeds United and Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, it is believed that those at Elland Road have taken notice of the Belgium international’s move to Stamford Bridge, and are using his £53m fee as a benchmark for Gnonto.
Leeds United feel that they would be well within their rights to demand a similar fee for the 19-year-old attacker, given the fact he is a full Italy international and also has 25 Premier League appearances to his name, in comparison to Lavia’s 29.
So far, the best offer for Gnonto has been from Everton, who placed a £25m package on the table.
In regards to Chelsea, this is an interesting development.

It suggests that the transfer activity at Stamford Bridge is being used as a case study for rival clubs to conclude their own valuations, and determine whether they are undervaluing or overvaluing a talent.
In this instance, we agree with Leeds United – based on the Lavia deal and other transfers we’ve seen this summer, the Whites are more than entitled to demand a large fee for Gnonto.
Romeo Lavia could end up being a bargain for Chelsea
While a £53m fee for a 19-year-old is certainly steep, we feel Lavia is talented enough to make his price tag look small in years to come.
According to The Times, Southampton think the Belgian is the best young No.6 in Europe, and you’d like to think he’ll only get better playing alongside Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Just look at the £115m fee Chelsea spent on the latter.
If Lavia – who Pep Guardiola once called “incredible” – has a strong debut campaign and helps take Chelsea back to the top of English football, there is no reason why he also cannot become a player worth over £100m.
