Gary Neville has said on SkyBet’s ‘The Overlap’ that Todd Boehly looks like he is panicking as Chelsea owner.

The American finally ended Chelsea’s drawn-out search for a new owner back in May, with fans left wondering how his ownership of the club would compare to how big spender Roman Abramovich ran things before him.

So far, supporters are likely to be impressed with some of the names the Blues have got over the line, with Boehly often mentioned as key member of negotiations.

However, the club have fumbled a number of big targets, leading some to believe the window has been somewhat of a failure.

It appears Neville falls into this camp, comparing the American’s actions this summer as someone playing Football Manager.

Neville believes Boehly is panicking

He said: “The American guy Boehly looks like he wants to play Football Manager. There’s something in him, they’re a bit panicky. That pressure is on him.

“He’s [Todd Boehly] definitely playing Football Manager, let’s be clear. He’s reacting to clubs and what they are doing. You hear his name too much, he’s too prominent.

“He wouldn’t have had that pressure if he kept the people that were there before [Granovskaia, Buck and Cech] and let them operate for a year or two.”

The LA Dodgers owner saw a number of key members on the board leave this summer, with him temporarily having to take care of transfers for the time being.

Despite a summer of highs and lows that is certainly far from finished, supporters should be encouraged by Boehly’s first window in charge of the club.

As well as the big-name signings for the present, he has been keen to invest in the club’s future, securing a deal for Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka as well as completing the anticipated signing of American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.
