Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco now looks likely to sign a new contract despite links to Chelsea.

According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, Inter have offered Federico Dimarco a fresh deal and the 25-year-old could now be set to remain at the Italian giants.

Towards the end of last month, 90min claimed that Dimarco had caught the attention of both Chelsea and their Premier League rivals Manchester City.

However, everything is now pointing towards the left-back signing a contract extension and staying at Inter.

Chelsea may have to move someone on before they even consider making a play for Dimarco. Mauricio Pochettino currently has Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen who can all play on the left side of defence.

Inter Milan make contract proposal

On Inter’s bid to keep hold of Dimarco, Romano said: “Inter have made a proposal to extend his contract. The conversation will continue, but Dimarco is doing fantastic at Inter. He’s one of the most attractive left-backs around, but the contract extension with Inter, the negotiation for the contract extension is going to continue.

“Dimarco always said he wants to stay, he wants to extend the contract. Inter presented their proposal, the conversation is ongoing, but at the moment, it looks very likely for Dimarco to continue at Inter.”

Federico Dimarco likely to stay at Inter Milan

It would now be a surprise if Dimarco did not sign a new contract and left Inter. He seems to be more than happy there.

And even if that were not the case and the Italian did want to leave the San Siro, is Stamford Bridge really a realistic destination?

As already mentioned, the Blues are already stacked with left-back options and not bad ones either. Only one can play in that position, so it would make little sense for Chelsea to prioritise signing another one next year.

Of course, a lot can happen between now and January, with maybe an exit or two possible. But right now, you certainly would not say Dimarco to Chelsea is the most likely outcome.
