Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs to admire Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, but there’s nothing advanced at this stage.

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs claims Chelsea, along with other top Premier League clubs, are big fans of the 26-year-old Leeds star.

In fact, the England international is on a long shortlist compiled by the Blues in the search for a defensive midfielder.

Jacobs is keen to stress there’s nothing concrete at this point in terms of Thomas Tuchel’s side launching a transfer move for him.

“I still think Kalvin Phillips would be a superb signing for any club. There’s lots of interest there,” Ben Jacobs said.

“Manchester United have looked at him. I think that every top club in the Premier League admires Phillips, and that includes Chelsea, but there doesn’t appear to be anything advanced.

“I don’t want to come on here and say it might be Phillips to Chelsea because it’s only a name on a very, very long shortlist rather than anything advanced.”

These claims come amid a period where Phillips is being heavily linked with a transfer switch this summer elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mail, Premier League champions Manchester City are prepared to pay as much as £60million during this window to sign the Leeds talisman.

Chelsea admire Kalvin Phillips

With Chelsea now available to enter the transfer market, floods of different players are being linked with a switch to the Stamford Bridge.

These links to Leeds ace Phillips are still in their infancy and it looks like they may be beaten in the race for his signature before it’s even begun.

He’s a deep-lying midfield playmaker that’s performed on the international stage for England. Therefore, a move away from a Leeds side that battled relegation this year makes sense, albeit they’re his boyhood club.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Chelsea do look to add more English recruits to their starting XI, as both Mason Mount and Reece James are regulars in the Blues line-up.
