Lyon want to sign one player from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The French club are having a terrible season, currently sitting 16th in Ligue 1, and it looks like they will now try to bring in a Chelsea star to improve their team and change their fortunes.

According to Foot Mercato, Lyon have made Benoit Badiashile a priority target and want to sign him on loan next month.

The outlet has also claimed that Lyon and Chelsea have good relations following the deal that saw Malo Gusto leave the Groupama Stadium for Stamford Bridge.

Badiashile has just got himself back into Chelsea’s first XI after returning from injury, starting in his side’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United over the weekend.

As well as Lyon, the 22-year-old has also been linked with a switch to AC Milan. Chelsea signed him from AS Monaco at the beginning of 2023 for £35m (BBC Sport).

Should Chelsea allow Benoit Badiashile to join Lyon on loan?

Absolutely not. With the amount of injuries they have picked up this season, it would be mad for Chelsea to make their squad weaker by allowing Badiashile to leave on loan.

The France international is also a good a defender who brings a lot to the Blues’ backline.

For example, Badiashile is currently winning 2.8 aerial duels per game in the Premier League. It is the highest average in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad (WhoScored).

Even if Badiashile does not become a regular this season, he could still have a big future in west London.

The former Monaco man is not even 23 yet, while Thiago Silva is now 39 and could leave Chelsea at the end of the campaign when his contract expires. It could pave the way for Badiashile to become Pochettino’s main left-sided centre-back.

All in all, loaning Badiashile out or selling him would not make much sense.
