Chelsea had an offer in the works for Youssoufa Moukoko even before Armando Broja sustained his terrible injury.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Todd Boehly was ‘making progress’ on a deal to sign the Borussia Dortmund in the summer prior to Broja’s unfortunate accident.

Boehly might now need to revert to a January move for Moukoko, thanks to the clear absence of striking options in Graham Potter’s squad.

Broja will likely miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a friendly against Aston Villa on the weekend.

This devasting news has certainly changed how Chelsea approach the winter window.

Adding additional attacking support to a faltering front line is the top priority.

Other than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Potter has no other traditional number nines to call upon.

Is Youssoufa Moukoko the man Chelsea need?

Whilst Moukoko might not be the revolutionary signing fans are hoping for, he certainly has proven to be a handy offensive weapon.

He has scored six times for Dortmund this season, along with providing as many assists in 22 appearances.

A centre-forward by trade, the 18-year-old could be a handy back-up to the senior players at Chelsea.

Aubameyang and co. might not be waiting much longer to receive support up front.

Moukoko’s contract expires in the summer, meaning he is on course to leave Dortmund as a free agent.

Whilst clubs could wait and possibly snap him up for minimal cost, they might also make a bid in January just to jump to the head of the queue.

This approach may be in Boehly’s thinking, as other Premier League rivals are seemingly beginning to circle the Bundesliga’s youngest ever player.
