Manchester United no longer want to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea – Erik ten Hag is now looking at a deal for Sergio Reguilon instead.
That is according to The Athletic.
So, why have Manchester United withdrawn their interest in Marc Cucurella? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Red Devils were in talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for the £63m man after Luke Shaw suffered a serious injury.
Now – however – Manchester United are no longer interested after Mauricio Pochettino played Cucurella against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday.
Of course, the Argentine’s decision to use his No.3 means he is now cup-tied and cannot play in the Carabao Cup for Manchester United this season.

The Athletic also explain that Cucurella would not be able to join a third club in January if Manchester United or Chelsea ended his loan prematurely, so there are multiple reasons why Pochettino’s decision to play the Spaniard has caused issues.
No player is able to represent three different clubs in one campaign.
Pochettino was foolish to play Cucurella in 2-1 Chelsea win
In our view, the South American has made a mistake here.
With all due respect to AFC Wimbledon, Cucurella was not required to play for Chelsea to progress into the next round.
Ian Maatsen could have been used at left-back, or Ishe Barrington Samuels-Smith, who was signed from Everton at the start of the summer.

In truth, the 25-year-old didn’t even perform very well, with Pochettino telling Ben Chilwell to warm up at one point after seeing Cucurella lose possession.
Now, Chelsea are potentially stuck with the left-back and his £175,000-a-week wages until at least January, which is hardly ideal given the fact he is not an important first-team member.
Hopefully, Chelsea can still find a way to offload Cucurella before Friday’s transfer deadline.
