Michael Essien has hailed England and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham as the best midfielder at the World Cup in Qatar.

Bellingham, who’s a 19-year-old superstar linked with Chelsea, has enhanced his reputation even further in the last few weeks.

He was part of an England side that were knocked out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals against France, who will play Argentina this Sunday in the final.

The Dortmund teenager is a box-to-box central midfielder that looked at total ease on the biggest international stage.

Michael Essien hailed Jude Bellingham

Chelsea legend Essien, who was a Rolls-Royce midfielder himself back in his playing career, has been massively impressed by Bellingham during the World Cup tournament.

When asked the best midfielder at this World Cup, Essien replied to FIFA: “Bellingham”.

Chelsea fans have been spoiled over the years with so many quality midfielders at Stamford Bridge such as Essien, Frank Lampard, N’Golo Kante, Michael Ballack and Cesc Fabregas. Let’s hope the Blues can add Bellingham to that list.

Chelsea speculation

Journalist Matt Law previously reported that Chelsea are prepared to bid whatever it takes to sign Bellingham. This comes after journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed it may take as much as £135million to sign him.

Bellingham’s form for club and country has been exceptional, so it’s no surprise top teams are circling for him.

He’s the complete midfielder that attacks well and contributes going forward, scoring nine goals in 22 Dortmund games so far this season. There aren’t many that can match his tenacity and aggression without the ball, too.
