Newcastle United are lining up a move to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea this summer.
That is according to Football.London.
They claim that Trevoh Chalobah, 24, is open to leaving Stamford Bridge during the current transfer window.
It is explained that Chelsea will be prepared to sell the young defender, who’s an academy graduate to come through the youth system at Cobham. All parties will be happy to continue working together if no transfer is found, though.
The report explains that Premier League side Newcastle have stepped forward by registering interest in the centre-back. Eddie Howe’s side are now considering a swoop to try take him to St James’ Park.
The Daily Mail claimed this week that Serie A club Inter Milan have asked Chelsea about signing Chalobah this summer.
If last season’s Champions League runners-up want to sign you, then you must be doing something right.
It was a difficult term last year for the entire Chelsea squad, massively underachieving across all competitions during a turbulent season. Chalobah is one of the rare players that can hold his head up high for his performances, though.
Frank Lampard described Chalobah as “fantastic” back in May after his performance against Nottingham Forest (Football London).
We can definitely see the benefits of keeping Chalobah next season, with his versatility to play right-back or centre-back extremely useful in the squad.
It would be good for Mauricio Pochettino to get a good look at the English defender in pre-season before making up his mind on his future.
However, it does look like the competition for places in the Blues defence will be very tough next campaign.
