Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on David Datro Fofana which conflicts reports regarding the Chelsea striker.

A story from Record in Portugal claimed that the 20-year-old would be loaned out to Sporting CP as part of a deal to bring Manuel Ugarte to Stamford Bridge.

Now – however – Fabrizio Romano has added a new take on the situation surrounding David Datro Fofana.

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist has firmly denied talk of the Ivorian moving to Sporting CP.

Romano wrote on Twitter that there is “no chance” of Fofana joining the Portuguese giants on loan as part of the deal for Ugarte.

In full, the Italian tweeted: “One more detail on Manuel Ugarte deal. David Datro Fofana will not be part of the deal despite reports — no chance, not even for a loan move to Sporting. Chelsea and Sporting are not including Fofana into the discussions.”

It remains to be seen whether that means Chelsea want to keep the £8.6m man at Stamford Bridge next season, or if they simply felt a loan to Sporting CP wasn’t the right move.

Whatever happens with Ugarte – ESPN believe a deal is close – we believe Chelsea should still focus on finding Fofana a productive loan move elsewhere.

Chelsea have to loan out David Datro Fofana

In our view, it would be a major waste of potential word class talent if Fofana sits on Chelsea’s bench again next season.

The Ivory Coast international played just 68 minutes of Premier League football after swapping Molde for Chelsea in January, a move which stunted his rhythm.

If Fofana is not going to be loaned to Sporting CP, Chelsea must find another destination to send the Ouragahio-born wonderkid, preferably a loan to another Premier League side, such as Crystal Palace for example.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Ugarte looks set to arrive at Chelsea even without Fofana being included in the deal.
