'No, I really enjoy it here': 22-year-old English player suggests he's got no interest in signing for Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly interested in Middlesbrough youngster Isaiah Jones, but the player himself has expressed his desire to stay at the Riverside Stadium next season.

According to 90min, Chelsea are among the clubs to set their sights on the 22-year-old star at Championship side Boro.

It is understood Manchester United and Tottenham are tracking the English wing-back, too.

However, Jones did explain earlier this month that his focus is on kicking on next year with his current club. It suggests he’s got no wish to go chasing a big move to a Premier League giant like Chelsea just yet.

“It’s always nice to hear praise, but when people say to me, ‘you should be in the Premier League’ and ‘you should leave Middlesbrough’, I’m like, ‘No, I really enjoy it here’. I’m improving here every day,” Jones told Ur Fresh TV, as quoted by 90min.

“So next season I want to aim for eight to ten goals and about 12-15 assists.”

Chelsea interested in Isaiah Jones

Boro youngster Jones has been transformed into a right wing-back recently, something which is getting the very best out of his game.

He finished last season with an impressive tally of 9 assists in 42 Championship appearances.

It’s obvious some of the Premier League’s big clubs are circling for his signature, but some may view it as refreshing to hear the English talent wants to keep playing regular football next season in the Championship.

Jones would be an understudy at Chelsea to one of the game’s best wing-backs right now, Reece James. Therefore, another season in a Boro short could be the right short-term plan.

Thomas Tuchel’s preferred system is one where the Blues massively rely on their wing-backs, so it’s definitely a vital area of the pitch for the club’s scouts to consider.

With Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta linked with a summer exit, there may be a need to find a new right wing-back option.
