'Not in doubt': Romano delivers update about Chelsea player's future
Chelsea star Thiago Silva is reportedly destined to sign a contract extension at Stamford Bridge.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Brazilian defender will commit his future to the Blues by penning a fresh one-year deal to keep him in London until 2023.
The 37-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but it’s reportedly “not in doubt” that he will extend his contract a further year.
Apparently, the paperwork will be sorted and signed in the coming weeks/months.
Silva exceeded all expectations during his debut season at Chelsea last year, playing an important role in the club winning the Champions League.
The experienced £105,000-a-week centre-half has remarkably followed that up in the first half of this campaign with so many outstanding individual performances.
He’s done enough to earn a third season at the Bridge, too.
Silva signing pure genius from Chelsea
The capture of Silva on a free transfer in the 2020 summer transfer window continues to look better and better with every display from the veteran defender.
It’s been a remarkable 2021 for him where he’s excelled in the heart of the back three after reuniting with manager Thomas Tuchel.
Of course, he’s at an age where he’s towards the latter stages of his career and one-year deals make sense.
However, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
Alan Shearer recently said the South American makes defending look easy.
