Burnley manager Vincent Kompany raved about unique Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen after his performance against Swansea City yesterday.

Maatsen, 20, is a very exciting young talent Chelsea decided to loan out to Burnley this season.

The attack-minded left-back has quickly established himself as a key player at Turf Moor for a Clarets side sat top of the Championship table in search of promotion.

He helped inspire Burnley’s 2-1 away victory over Swansea on Monday, scoring two fantastic first-half goals.

The full-back fired in a fantastic free-kick with great precision. His second was a piledriver from open play that he stuck from outside the box, too.

Kompany waxed lyrical about Chelsea’s 20-year-old loanee after his latest display this week.

In fact, he highlighted the youngster as quite a unique player given the amount of quality he possesses in both offensive and defensive situations.

“That second goal just travelled and kept going. Ian has given so much defensively and then he was able to add that to his game – not many players can give you that,” Kompany said, as quoted by Lancashire Times.

Maatsen now has four goals and four assists already this season for Burnley.

Chelsea must love the fact he’s showing all the traits of a modern day full-back with his quality going forward. He’s got pace and aggression when defending with his back to goal as well.

It’s hard to plot his route into the Blues first team when you consider Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella both play left-back in the current squad at Stamford Bridge.

He’s the Chelsea loan player putting forward the best case to get some kind of first-team promotion, though.
